Remarkably Unremarkable...
Today was a remarkably unremarkable day at obs. The wind was kind of pitifully bad, with 9 meters per second from south-southwest, which is kind of useless at this time of year. And as expected, the obs was mostly a nothingburger.
The usual suspects: Common Scoters (Melanitta nigra), Red-throated Loons (Gavia stelatta), and Meadow Pipits (Anthus pratensis) were few, with respectively 253, 28, and 52 flying by. And besides the one Nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes) visiting us at obs, all the other numbers were pretty pathetic, and honestly… I really don’t want to talk about obs anymore.
In pure desperation for birds, a couple of friends and I went bushwhacking for something (anything!). And after 5 hours of intense birding, we only managed a couple of Yellow-browed Warblers (Phylloscopus inornatus), a single regular Lesser Whitethroat (Curruca curruca) (unluckily not a Blythi or Halimodendri), two Red Crossbills (Loxia curvirostra), and 7 (!) Grey Partridges (Perdix perdix). Not really the hidden treasures we had hoped for, but a decent way to make up for the pathetic obs.
