Stille vind og skønne havpattedyr

tirsdag 12. august 2025
af Sverre Dahl Porsgaard og Martina Hillbrand

Morgen observation:

Today was the first day since I arrived that had virtually no wind, so I wanted to get the most out of it and opened all nets in the morning. It started off really good with a few birds in every net check but never too many to worry I couldn’t handle them. There were also some migrants but a lot were just local birds (unless migration is already coming to an end in which case robins and chiffchaffs can count as migrants as well – but let’s assume this is not so).

So, it all went well and quite pleasantly so, but then suddenly it started to rain just a little bit. I checked the rain radar to see how it was going to develop – also because there were no birds and I finally had time. But, of course, the radar lied and it turned out to be a lot more rain than expected, so by and by I had to close all the nets apart from the station garden.

Sverre and Thomas joined me again after 9 and also helped close the lighthouse garden, which was very welcome help as it was starting to rain quite hard by then. We left the station garden open, hoping for birds after the rain but they did not come, so we closed around noon. Well, it was a good first half of the morning, in any case, it’s just sad that the rain had to stop the fun.

But tomorrow…
