Scoter passage and singing Rosefinches
The morning seawatch was dominated by Common Scoter (Sortand, Melanitta nigra) passage, involving an impressive 5771 birds, mainly flying south. Further highlights from the Sydhukket included a single Scaup (Bjergand, Aythya marila), and an adult White-tailed Eagle (Havørn, Haliaeetus albicilla). The ringing effort produced twelve new birds of seven species but did include a retrap female-type Rosefinch after the standardised trapping had ended. Throughout the course of the morning we were serenaded by as many as three Rosefinches including at least one red male!
Rosefinch (Karmindompap, Carpodachus erythrinus) ringed in 2020 as a 2K+, retrapped again today.
3K+ female Lesser/Common Redpoll (Lille/Nordlig Gråsisken, Acanthis cabaret/flammea)
Ringing: 4 Lesser/Common Redpoll (Lille/Nordlig Gråsisken, Acanthis cabaret/flammea), 1 Willow Warbler (Løvsanger, Phylloscopus trochilus), 1 Pied Flycatcher (Broget Fluesnapper, Ficedula hypoleuca), 1 Icterine Warbler (Gulbug, Hippolais icterina), 1 Redstart (Rødstjert, Phoenicurus phoenicurus), 2 Garden Warbler (Havesanger, Sylvia borin), 1 Blackcap (Munk, Sylvia atricapilla), and 1 Blackbird (Solsort, Turdus merula).
